#245 closed enhancement (fixed)

intercept paste with gecko: popup with textarea

Reported by: niko Owned by: gogo
Priority: low Milestone:
Component: Xinha Core Version:
Severity: normal Keywords: paste wordclean gecko

as gecko doesn't allow to read the clipboard we should add do it like fckeditor and others:

  1. user click the paste-button in the toolbar
  2. a popup opens with a big textarea
  3. here the user presses V
  4. and clicks OK
  5. the text will be entered into xinha (after some word-cleaning and stuff)

In IE we don't change anything as it works fine there.

I think you got the wrong end of the stick. Pasting works fine in moz and IE (sure, the paste button in moz won't, but CTRL-V will), what we want is a way to "paste as text" - this would be a separate button that opens a textarea, instructs the user to ctrl-v and then copies the text into Xinha at the correct position.

yes, the paste as text is the second feature we can implement using this method.

but i was thinking more of config.killWordOnPaste.

See ticket #349 for an implementation of this.

The PasteText? plugin does exactly this, it puts a clipboard button after the paste button that looks just like the normal paste button, except there is a "T" on the page the clipboard is holding. In Mozilla it puts the button after WordClean?.

When you click on the button a popup opens with an area to paste text into. The pasted text is naturally "cleaned." Linefeeds are converted to paragraphs, tabs are converted to 5 spaces.

I needed exactly this functionality to replace the task of pasting Word docs into Homesite and manually wrapping paragraphs with p-tags. This creates paragraphs perfectly.
