#1310 new defect

Can't escape from a <pre> element

When the last element in the WYSIWYG editor is a <pre> element, there's no clear way to get out of that element and into a normal paragraph. Hitting enter just expands the pre.

Even without a control to add pre elements, you can get them in your content pretty easily through copy-and-paste.

You can actually insert <pre> elements using the format menu (though, somewhat bizarrely, it's listed as "Formatted").

I think the behavior here should be the same as that for headings, where pressing enter gets you out of the formatting and shift-enter keeps you inside of it. (Note that this doesn't currently work in FF3; I think this is related to #1226, which Doug has a nearly finished fix for).

Shift-Enter would work well, though it would be hard to discover. Is it possible to put a message into the status based on the element you are in?

I agree, it's definitely hard to discover (I didn't know about it until someone told me) and should be made more obvious. I've created ticket #1368 to address this.
